The Somatic Art Practice® retreat will take place in person in a beautiful space not far from Barcelona, Catalunya.
Dates: 10th- 13th of October 2024.
The retreat forms part of the SAP® professional programme, that has an online part (that you might have already taken or will take after the retreat) and an in-person part (the retreat). Each part can be taken separately, without the interest/need for certification but for gaining SAP® professional tools, inspiration or personal development.
For gaining the SAP® Certification you need to participate in both parts, otherwise you can receive a certificate of participation of the specific hours (CPD). SAP® professional program focuses on the methodology and pedagogy of somatic artmaking.
During the retreat you will have the opportunity to gain:
- embodiment tools from various fields/disciplines, such as somatics (Body-Mind Centering®), fine arts, visual arts ((drawing, sculpture/installation, creative writing, photography and videodance), performing arts (dance, performance, improvisation).
- transdisciplinary methodology tools (in arts based research and in teaching)
- experiential, inquiry-based pedagogy tools
The in-presence retreat also aims to enrich the areas that cannot be easily experienced in the online part, such as:
- group dynamics
- touch qualities
- presence qualities
- use of big space
- contact with nature
- site-specific somatic artmaking (in relation and response to nature and space)

Location and organisational information
We will be staying and studying in an atmospheric 19th century farmhouse surrounded by nature. You can read more about the retreat space here: https://www.fundaciolaplana.org/en/
Flights & Transfers:
The retreat will start on the 10th October in the afternoon and finish on the 13th October in the afternoon.
Please make sure you flight arrives at Barcelona either the day before, on October 9th, or at least at 11:30-12am on the same day.
For flying out, it's best to book a flight for the day after, October 14th, or getting one of the last evening flights on the final day.
From Barcelona (plaza Cataluña) we'll need to get the train to Manresa (1h30min). Manresa is the closest train station to the retreat center (30 km away). From there you can take a taxi from Manresa train station to Fundacion La Plana. We'll be contacting the participants to arrange taxi sharing.
We'll aim to get the 13:30 train from Barcelona, so that we arrive at Manresa at 15:00, and to the retreat centre by 15:30.
Timetable:
Our session on the first day will take place 17:00-20:00.
Our session on the last day will take place 10-13:00.
Our daily sessions will take place 10:00-13:30 and 16:00-19:30
Meals:
9am Breakfast, 14:00 Lunch, 20:30 Dinner
The diet is mediterranean and vegetarian. We also offer adaptations for gluten and lactose intolerances.
Closer to the time, we will be in touch with a diet questionnaire for each participant
Accommodation:
Our sleeping space is a dormitory-style room, with a separation between every 2 beds for privacy.
There is also a loft with 2 beds for further privacy and some of the spaces in the dormitories also have sliding doors.
Dance studio:
Our dance studio is 76 m2, with wooden floor, for a maximum of 15 participants.
The space will be available for us all day long (even before and after our classes take place), so that you can also use it for your own practice. There is also a communal swimming pool between trees, 5 minutes away from the studio.
